Word of the Week:

Sunflower

One summer when my kids were small, we grew sunflowers in our garden, because my daughter loved them. Maybe her young artist eye appreciated something of the symmetry of these flowers, something satisfying beyond her young vocabulary.

Insights Into

Mental Health and Autism

I write extensively on mental health and autism at Key Ministry, primarily from the perspective of how churches and Christian organizations can support the outsider in their midst, and help the body of Christ become more complete. But I also write here more directly about my own experiences with mental health, as well as the autism and mental health experiences of people in my life. The bulk of the content in this section is available for subscribers only.

Miracles - Do You Believe?

I do. Why? Because I’ve experienced and seen many miracles. Small things. Giant things. Everything in between.

Don’t believe me? Read aabout a few on the general blog to see for yourself. The most amazing ones are reserved for subscribers.

Penny Pinching!

It was just a fortune cookie, but I knew God was telling me the truth. The fear of poverty would not last for ever.

That’s a story for another day. We’ve been blessed by God and have worked hard, and somehow we managed to pay off a mortgage, buy cars when needed, pay for private school and pay for two college educations. Something has obviously gone right. I’ll share some of our strategies on the general blog, but most with subscribers.

Seriously, I’m a penny-pinching pro.

Gifts from Your Pain

During one of the hardest times of my life, I kept a graphic with this verse posted so it was literally THE thing I saw when I looked up during my work day.

God keeps all our tears in a bottle, but that’s not the purpose for our pain. He refines those who love Him, leading to everlasting treasures.

Humor

I believe in learning something new every day. Recently, I learned that the fastest way to have your adult children respond to a text is to send them a picture of a prospective new kitten laughing.

Prospective Kitten:

Actual kitten we got from the Christiansburg, VA Humane Society. Her name is Sophie laughing.
